Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) killed six Al Shabaab commanders in an attack on the militia’s base in Tatar town, Somalia.
This is the second killing of top commanders of the militia group in attacks that have seen them lose weapons in two days.
"KDF gun ships attacked Tatar town destroying Al Shabaab command centre and a logistic base. Six commanders were killed in the attack, two technical, one fitted with ZU anti-air gun, and a lorry were destroyed," said military spokesman Maj Emmanuel Chirchir on Twitter.
Maj Chirchir said the town is North of Hayo. Kenya and Somali government troops are carrying out a joint military offensive against the Al Qaeda-linked movement.
The offensive was launched in October following a spate of kidnappings of foreigners from Kenya.
Kenyan and Somali governments accuse the militant group of being behind growing insecurity along the common border of the two countries.
The troops have put pressure on the gang pushing them from areas they had been occupying.
